As a data scientist who aspires to use data science knowledge to make a positive impact on people’s lives, I collected some resources to do data science for social good. Wouldn’t it be great if we can do good to the society while learning?

Volunteer for Social Good:

  • DataKind: “From evening or weekend events to multi-month projects, all are designed to provide social organizations with the pro bono data science innovation team they need to tackle critical humanitarian issues in the fields of education, poverty, health, human rights, the environment and cities.”
  • Code for America: “On a mission to make government work in the digital age.”
  • Predictive Network: “The Largest Data Science Network Transforming The World For Good”, I’m not sure if it’s functioning
  • Delta Analytics: A San Francisco based non-profit organization. “We help public service organizations with all their data-driven needs and strive to make machine learning and education about data tools accessible.”

Competitions for Social Good:

  • DrivenData: A competition platform that focuses solely on social challenges.
  • Some Kaggle projects that tackle social problems.

If you know any other resources, please let me know and I’d love to add them to this list. :)
